Sherrill’s skate park located in the CAC parking lot on E. Hamilton Ave. will be closed for the 2018 season. While the City has owned the equipment for 8+ years, the modular steel park is nearly 20-years old and is beyond repair and in its condition creates a hazard for the users.
Though the park is closing until further notice, the City has formally submitted a request for funding to Assemblyman William Magee’s office. The City is also exploring additional opportunities to help fund the park.
City Manager Brandon Lovett said the City is supportive of “action sports” like skate boarding, BMX biking, inline skating and more. “The City is hopeful it will receive the necessary assistance in rebuilding a new Action Park that will last another 20 years and provide a safe and enjoyable space for its users.”
Updates on the progress of funding a new park will be provided via the City website, the City’s Facebook page and at the May 16, 2018 Citywide Recreation Meeting at the CAC. The cost to replace the existing park equipment is estimated between $50,000 – $60,000.
